There are a number of different liposuction procedures and techniques. Liposuction is basically the removal of fat from the body using suction, but how this is accomplished depends on the part of the body to be operated on, the patient and the surgeon. This is an outline of the liposuction procedures or tummy tuck procedures available to people and their advantages.

Liposuction Procedures

Depending on the type of liposuction you are undergoing, the procedure may be performed as an outpatient procedure at the doctor's office or surgery center. Alternatively, if a lot of fat is being removed, the operation will be done in a hospital and may require a stay possibly overnight.

Once the anesthesia has taken effect, the liposuction procedure is performed using a suction device attached to a small, stainless steel instrument called a cannula. This device is inserted into fatty areas and suction is used to remove the fat deposits. This leaves a smoother, improved body contour. The length of the procedure will vary with the amount of fat to be removed.

Tumescent liposuction Procedure

This involves, the surgeon injecting a solution into your fatty areas before the fat is removed. It is a saline solution, a mild painkiller and epinephrine, a drug that restricts your blood vessels. This helps the surgeon remove the fat more easily but it helps reduce blood loss and provides pain relief aswell.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction involves ultrasonic energy to liquefy the fat, after which it is more easily removed from the body.

Power Assisted Liposuction

Power assisted liposuction uses a power supply to create a spinning or in-and-out movement in the cannula. This technique is used to perform the procedure in a smaller amount of time.

Liposuction Costs

The cost is highly variable and depends on the areas being liposuctioned. In general the physician's fee per area is $1500 to $2000. Other costs include hospital fee and anesthesia.
